  • Cantilevered wall bracket on non-historic additions: Many Charleston homes have later-period additions that don’t carry HPO restrictions — identify these zones and anchor there

Chute Configuration for Narrow Charleston Lots

The South of Broad and Harleston Village neighborhoods are known for extremely narrow lots — some only 18-22 feet wide — with adjacent structures sharing party walls and zero setback. Getting a debris container in place and positioning a chute that doesn’t create access problems for neighbors is a real logistics challenge.

  • Use a compact roll-off or mini-container that fits within the property’s narrow footprint — full 20-yard containers won’t fit in many Charleston single lots
  • Angle the chute toward the container rather than running it straight down — a 15-degree lateral bend at the base keeps debris inside without requiring the container to be centered directly below the discharge point
  • Coordinate with neighbors early — Charleston’s narrow lots mean your chute and container may be 3-5 feet from a neighbor’s window. A courtesy notice avoids complaints and work stoppages
  • Run the chute along the side piazza rather than the street-facing facade — this reduces visibility and keeps the operation off the primary street frontage

Humidity and Temperature Considerations
